Hotel Management Company Executive Gets a Charge from Plugging Others into Community Service Outlets
Marion Sawyer began her career 21 years ago as the night auditor at LTD Management, a Chesapeake-based hotel company. After two decades of working various jobs there, the company asked Sawyer in June 2006 to manage a new community affairs department. "They started this department to solely focus on giving back to the community," Sawyer says. "I've been volunteering in the community, even when I was little, so this is my passion." Her job is to find ways to involve the company's 200 employees in service to others. Sawyer says it's the projects that LTD gets involved in, such as programs that benefit Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, that are special to her. "It's easy to just write check, but once you volunteer, you can see the results and say, 'I did something today to make a difference,'" she says.
